Native Garden
The Topanga Creek Watershed Committee is an all-volunteer group of folks committed to protecting, preserving, and enhancing the health of all the life in our local ecosystem – which means that we promote the best “clean and green” practices among all who live, work, and visit here. We encourage everyone who cares about wildlife and the health of our local environment to contribute their ideas, energy, and/or time, and money, to keep Topanga healthy and beautiful.

In conjunction with the Topanga Earth Day Organizing Committee and the TCC, several years ago we created a garden of native plants at the TCC, between the ballfield and the Community House. The native garden is intended to demonstrate to all who see it the many benefits of gardening with native plants: they require very little water, and no pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizer. They are lovely to look at and smell, are very low maintenance (and therefore low cost), change with the seasons, and, since they are a food source for native butterflies and birds, promote the health of these species, and attract them to your garden. Several times a year local kids, Watershed Committee members, and other volunteers and nature lovers turn out for a fun day of planting, mulching, and caring for our native garden. It’s a collaborative, constantly evolving project, which will add life and beauty to the TCC for many, many years to come.
